In the academic year 2023/24, specific teaching modules have been designed in the Master's Degree Course in Primary Education to integrate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the understanding and study of STEAM disciplines. These modules offer students, future teachers, the opportunity to explore the potential of AI and develop the skills to effectively integrate it into teaching practice. The first part of this study therefore presents data from a questionnaire used to assess students' perspectives, perceptions and attitudes towards the use of AI. The second part describes the implementation of a workshop in which the use of ChatGPT to enhance the learning experience was tested. After addressing the main concerns about the use of this generative AI system, a practical experience was conducted for its ethical and effective use. Emphasis was placed on enhancing the fundamental knowledge to understand how ChatGPT works and on critical and ethical reflection in the use of these systems. The information developed prompted the students' metacognitive awareness, which enabled them to evaluate their own learning skills and strategies better. It is considered essential to provide guidelines to Primary Education students for the use of AI in educational contexts, to promote a technical and ethical understanding of artificial intelligence systems.
