To implement an effective teaching at university, some personal teacher characteristics are required: such as engagement, motivation and knowledge of suitable methodologies and evaluation tools. Before giving start to the training of university professors, it is necessary to have a clear picture of their didactic and docimological knowledge. In this study, we present a tool that we initially provided to 30 university professors from the pedagogical-didactic area of various Italian universities. After taking into account the suggestions received, we administrated it with a sample of 311 professors from all the departments and of almost all courses of studies at the University of Palermo. The results reveal that the tool allows to know the most common teaching practices and the training needs of various teachers with a particular reference to flipped teaching. Teachers were asked to reflect on how they habitually create learning environments and teaching situations that develop students’ soft skills through the use of technologies; on how they experiment with peer group management tools and peer training strategies and how they routinely explore new learning and teaching environments, different innovative organizational forms and ways of interaction between teachers and students.

Abstract

To implement an effective teaching at university, some personal teacher characteristics are required: such as engagement, motivation and knowledge of suitable methodologies and evaluation tools.
