In this article, through philological analysis and comparison of the original text with the Italian translation of “Kanuni i Lekë Dukagjinit” (Codice di Lek Dukagjini, Rome 1941), the author aims to demonstrate that the numerous errors contained in the Italian version are in fact the main source of the stereotypical interpretations that dominate Western discourse on Albanian customary law today.
