The sanctuary, excavated in 2005-2006 on the top of the Acropolis of ancient Akrai, perhaps a Thesmophorion, was built in the Hellenistic period. It has a lot of rooms, each one was used for different rites that were performed indoors. In one of the sanctuary rooms, there were many thysiai. On the rock, two human burials, dated by C14, remains of a sacred banquet, and many animal bones with traces of fire, suggest an interesting hypothesis about life in the sanctuarial area between VI and III century bC.

Abstract
The sanctuary, excavated in 2005-2006 on the top of the Acropolis of ancient Akrai, perhaps a Thesmophorion, was built in the Hellenistic period. It has a lot of rooms, each one was used for different rites that were performed indoors. In one of the sanctuary rooms, there were many thysiai. On the rock, two human burials, dated by C14, remains of a sacred banquet, and many animal bones with traces of fire, suggest an interesting hypothesis about life in the sanctuarial area between VI and III century bC.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
