Today, the discipline of restoration is paying increasing attention to the dissonant heritage, including the former sanatoriums of the 19th and 20th century, in cities such as Palermo, were built by important architects thanks to the contribution of philanthropists and doctors, even though they are now incorporated in modern hospital complexes. Their critical analysis opens up integrated strategies for conservation and valorisation, overcoming the physical and cultural barriers.
