Le Ville della Piana dei Colli nei racconti storici e nelle narrazioni cinematografiche

The following paper intends to analyze how the “narrative” of some of the most famous architecture of the Piana dei Colli, expressed in literary sources by historians and scholars of that time, has contributed to shaping the collective perception and identity of places. Through the words of the illustrious voices who were interested in the history of the Sicilian capital between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries, the paper reflect about the importance of narratives in influencing the social perception of places and the mediating role they play in the process of defining a sense of awareness in collective memory. To this end, three case studies were identified, Villa Ventimiglia, Villa Resuttano and Villa Lampedusa, narrated by the sources according to three different methods. The narrative tools, which in contemporary language also include film and cinematographic transposition, are not limited only to exposing the linear and progressive succession of certain events but become key elements of the process of establishing the value of places, leveraging the feeling and suggestions that they arouse in the user.
