The essay analyzes an eighteenth-century church in Bagheria, built at the behest of a priest and designed according to the model and dimensions of the Catholicon of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In the second half of the nineteenth century, the faithful expanded and modified the church, transforming it from a single nave to three. In the early twentieth century, the church received a new neo-Gothic façade, designed by the renowned architect and restorer Ernesto Armò. The essay highlights the cultural and religious aspects that shaped the Church of the Holy Sepulchre's current appearance, including its restorations. The principles underlying the restoration work are also highlighted, placing the case of Bagheria within the context of Italian and European culture and emphasizing the new challenges for its enjoyment by the greatest possible number of people, for its valorization and conservation, for our generation and for future generations.
