The article reconstructs the history and myth of one of the most famous cities of Hellenic antiquity in Sicily, through its monuments, the beauty of its landscape, the relationship between archaeology and nature, up to the transformations of the nineteenth-century city and the contradictory and complex one of the contemporary era.
