Solunto. Il cosiddetto edificio sacro con altare a tre betili

This study provides a reassessment of the so-called sacred building with a three-baetyl altar in Solunto through a combination of archival research, masonry analysis, and drone photogrammetry. The research identifies distinct construction phases, challenging the traditional religious interpretation established during the 1954 excavations. The results indicate that the complex was likely built no earlier than the 3rd or 2nd century BCE and that the supposed altar actually consists of four structural pillars belonging to a much later industrial phase. The presence of a collection vat suggests that the structure was repurposed as a production plant, possibly a wine press. Ultimately, the study highlights the functional evolution of this urban space from a public building to a productive facility.
