La chiesa confraternale di Santa Maria la Nova a Palermo nel Cinquecento: il cantiere, i maestri

Through an analysis of the sources, this study examines the construction of the confraternity church of Santa Maria la Nova in Palermo during the sixteenth century and the role of the master builders involved. The events analyzed unfold in a discontinuous manner, with unexpected changes and dramatic, if not conflictual, developments. Although this is one of the few construction projects in Palermo for which expense reports have been preserved, the questions that emerge from the intersection of archival data and architecture are in fact still numerous, beginning with the role of the builders and the clients themselves
