In light of the growing recognition of the transformative potential of Service-Learning (SL), this paper examines the institutionalization process launched at the University of Palermo starting from the 2023/2024 academic year. In this context, SL has been formally adopted at the university level as a pedagogical methodology capable of enhancing the effectiveness of academic programs, fostering student autonomy and engagement, and strengthening the connection between university and local communities. The core focus of the contribution is the strategic role of evaluation as a lever for the stable and systemic integration of SL into academic curricula. Drawing on the experience gained through projects funded by a university-wide call and supported by the Teaching and Learning Centre (CIMDU), the paper outlines the criteria, tools, and procedures developed to assess the impact of SL on students, faculty, and communities. The proposed reflection aims to contribute to the debate on the institutionalization of SL by showing how targeted evaluation practices can support the legitimation, dissemination, and sustainability of this transformative educational methodology, in line with the orientations of the UNiSL network and its 2023 Manifesto.
Nel quadro della crescente attenzione verso il potenziale trasformativo del Service-Learning (SL), il presente contributo analizza il percorso della sua istituzionalizzazione avviato presso l’Università degli studi di Palermo a partire dall’anno accademico 2023/2024. In questo contesto, il SL è stato adottato a livello di ateneo come metodologia pedagogica capace di potenziare l’efficacia dei percorsi formativi, promuovere l’autonomia e il coinvolgimento attivo degli studenti, nonché rafforzare la connessione tra università e territorio. Il focus centrale del paper è il ruolo strategico della valutazione come leva per l’integrazione stabile e sistemica del SL nell’offerta accademica. A partire dall’esperienza maturata attraverso i progetti finanziati dal bando di Ateneo e supportati dal Teaching and Learning Centre (CIMDU), si presentano i criteri, gli strumenti e le procedure di valutazione adottati per rilevare l’impatto del SL su studenti, docenti e comunità. La riflessione proposta intende contribuire al dibattito sull’istituzionalizzazione del SL, evidenziando come pratiche valutative mirate possano favorire la legittimazione, la diffusione e la sostenibilità di questa metodologia trasformativa, in linea con gli orientamenti della rete UNiSL e del Manifesto del 2023.
