The expansion of photovoltaic installations faces limitations due to land use constraints, prompting innovative solutions that integrate renewable energy generation into existing infrastructures. This paper proposes a method to identify the energy production of photovoltaic plants installed within highway traffic islands, specifically analyzing the viability along Italy's A2 highway (Salerno-Reggio Calabria). Utilizing Geographic Information System analysis, the study identifies suitable sections based on technical highway specifications, safety barrier deformation criteria, and maintenance requirements. The study defines a Minimum Installation Space Width to select optimal highway sections. Results show that approximately 51,64 km of the A2 highway could accommodate PV installations, yielding an estimated total capacity of 27,29 MWp and producing approximately 34,75 MWh annually. This approach can be an initial viability analysis for evaluating the installation of photovoltaic systems in road infrastructure.

Abstract
This approach can be an initial viability analysis for evaluating the installation of photovoltaic systems in road infrastructure.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
