The article examines the development of the tourism industry in Sicily in the post-war period, interpreting it as a privileged opportunity for architectural and territorial experimentation. In the absence of a national reconstruction plan, the Sicilian Regional Government identified tourism as a strategic instrument for economic growth, promoting the construction of tourist villages capable of combining landscape enhancement with design innovation. Within this framework, the work of Giuseppe Spatrisano is situated: his projects—among them La Pineta in Erice and Le Rocce in Taormina—represent a significant contribution to the international debate on neo-popular and Mediterranean vernacular architecture. Through an analysis of settlement principles, the relationship with topography, and the use of traditional materials and forms, the article highlights how these architectures elaborate a model of temporary dwelling that is essential and deeply rooted in place. The current state of abandonment of many of these structures is interpreted as a critical yet revealing condition, capable of restoring the landscape and cultural value of an idea of slow and conscious tourism that has largely been lost today.
