A DICOM IOD Proposal for Videocapsule

DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) is the international standard that rules all aspects of technology for medical hardware and software. In particular, it rules the information architecture regarding file formats for diagnostic modalities and communication among them. Videocapsule is a wireless microcamera in form of a pill, which is the non-invasive alternative to traditional endoscopy. Although videocapsule technology exists since 2000, DICOM does not provide a dedicated section to the information architecture regarding videocapsule. In this paper, the authors propose a novel DICOM IOD (Information Object Definition) aimed at including medical imaging data from videocapsule.
