Floating offshore wind energy presents a significant development opportunity for Italy to expand its renewable energy capacity by using its extensive coastline and deep-water resources. Unlike traditional fixed-foundation offshore wind farms, floating wind technology can overcome depth constraints, enabling efficient energy production in previously inaccessible marine areas. This study explores the current landscape of offshore wind energy in Italy, analyzing technological advancements, regulatory challenges, and strategic measures required to unlock its full potentiality. Despite its favorable geographical conditions, Italy lags other European nations in installed offshore wind capacity. The analysis highlights the need for policy reforms, streamlined permitting processes, and targeted infrastructure investments to accelerate deployment and support the country's transition to a more sustainable energy system.
