The ELMED interconnection is a strategic HVDC link which will be realized between Italy and Tunisia. The link is aimed at delivering a more sustainable power supply with increasing integration of renewable energy sources in the areas, so it is expected to have a positive impact on the economic development and the energy transition of both countries. The paper demonstrates the opportunity of advanced control strategies for the power converters of the HVDC stations of the ELMED link, focusing on the innovative and emerging technology of grid-forming converters.

Abstract

The ELMED interconnection is a strategic HVDC link which will be realized between Italy and Tunisia.
