The purpose of this work is to identify specific operating conditions and grid configurations that justify the introduction of DC links into existing AC distribution grids, both by DC conversion of portions of MVAC networks and by the integration of new infrastructures in DC. The article presents a new and holistic approach to the problem of MVDC infrastructure development by going beyond what is found in the literature, where the choice between MVDC and MVAC is related to the calculation of power losses, voltage drops, and installation and operating costs. A methodology for the analysis and identification of existing MV distribution grids is presented, with an example application to a selected case study.

Abstract
The purpose of this work is to identify specific operating conditions and grid configurations that justify the introduction of DC links into existing AC distribution grids, both by DC conversion of portions of MVAC networks and by the integration of new infrastructures in DC. The article presents a new and holistic approach to the problem of MVDC infrastructure development by going beyond what is found in the literature, where the choice between MVDC and MVAC is related to the calculation of power losses, voltage drops, and installation and operating costs. A methodology for the analysis and identification of existing MV distribution grids is presented, with an example application to a selected case study.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
