ITALIA / STATI UNITI. ALBERTO BURRI E LA POETICA DEI CRETTI

The essay investigates the role of Alberto Burri in the dialogues between Europe and the United States. Starting from the experience of imprisonment in Texas and through the recognition of the main exhibitions promoted between Italy and the United States up to the most recent anthology promoted by the MoMA in New York, the contribution pays particular attention to Alberto Burri's research on the form of "cretto" and its environmental expansion. Focusing on the experiences of Naples (Capodimonte Museum), Los Angeles (Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden) and Gibellina (ruins of the old city), the essay explores the connections between Burri's research and Land Art in its consonances with the activity of artists such as Walter De Maria, Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer.

Il saggio indaga la figura di Alberto Burri in virtù della posizione privilegiata di cui l'artista italiano gode nei dialoghi tra Europa e Stati Uniti. A partire dall'esperienza di prigionia in Texas e attraverso la ricognizione delle principali mostre promosse tra l'Italia e gli Stati Uniti sino alla più recente antologica promossa dal MoMA di New York, il contributo presta particolare attenzione alla ricerca di Alberto Burri sulla forma del "cretto" e alla sua espansione ambientale. Focalizzandosi sulle esperienze di Napoli (Museo di Capodimonte), Los Angeles (Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden) e Gibellina (ruderi della città vecchia) il saggio esplora le connessioni tra la ricerca di Burri e la Land Art nelle sue consonanze con l'attività di artisti come Walter De Maria, Robert Smithson e Michael Heizer.
