In this paper, a performance comparison between two focusing systems, using a Periodic Permanent Magnet (PPM) and a Halbach Array (HA) for a circular beam Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) is reported. Magneto-static simulations demonstrate that HA is capable to generate the same magnetic field of the PPM configuration, with a reduction of the overall weight and radius of the magnetic circuit by a factor equal to 58% and 32%, respectively. These results pave the way for the exploitation of HA in circular beam-based TWTs and Klystrons for applications where weight reduction is fundamental.

Abstract
In this paper, a performance comparison between two focusing systems, using a Periodic Permanent Magnet (PPM) and a Halbach Array (HA) for a circular beam Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) is reported. Magneto-static simulations demonstrate that HA is capable to generate the same magnetic field of the PPM configuration, with a reduction of the overall weight and radius of the magnetic circuit by a factor equal to 58% and 32%, respectively. These results pave the way for the exploitation of HA in circular beam-based TWTs and Klystrons for applications where weight reduction is fundamental.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
