Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) systems provide a promising solution for electric vehicles (EVs) wireless charging. The coils misalignment in this application significantly affects the charging power and efficiency. As a consequence, self and mutual inductance variations due to misalignment must be compensated with proper control techniques. This paper presents an algorithm to achieve Zero Phase Angle (ZPA) detection to compensate for design tolerances and mutual coupling variations, in addition to a control system to regulate the transferred power. To validate the proposed algorithm both simulations and experiments are provided for a 1-kW IPT system. The results confirms that the proposed algorithm is efficient and capable of keeping the ZPA conditions over coils misalignment.
