The Covid-19 pandemic is radically changing the national and regional health systems. Technological innovation represents a solution capable of solving some of the key points of the pandemic emergency, specifically the speed of response, the need to maintain social distances and support for patient autonomy. In recent years, the potential of the new paradigm called "Internet of Things" (IoT), and its applications in the healthcare sector, has attracted the attention of scholars, practioners and policy makers (Atzori et al. 2014, 2017; Dhanvijay and Patil, 2019). The application of IoT has allowed the introduction of digital technological solutions capable of responding to the new cost containment and social challenges that the healthcare sector is facing.
