Starting from a diachronic review of studies on masons marks across the Mediterranean and Sicily, this paper will focus on the recent on a new repertoire of marks observed on the external wall facing of a religious building in the historic centre of Palermo, Italy, underscoring the need and the advantages that might derive from the use of a fast system allowing for acquisition, recording, cataloguing and public access to data relating to the informational data relating to this category of documentary evidence on (Norman/Swabian) buildings archaeology in Sicily.
Partendo da una rassegna diacronica degli studi riguardanti i marchi dei lapicidi nel Mediterraneo e in Sicilia, questo contributò si concentra su un repertorio di contrassegni osservato sul paramento murario esterno di un edificio di culto del centro storico di Palermo, sottolineando la necessità ed i vantaggi che potrebbero derivare dall’utilizzo di un sistema speditivo per l’acquisizione, schedatura, catalogazione e pubblico accesso ai dati informativi relativi a questa categoria di evidenze documentali propria dell’archeologia dell’architettura (normanna/sveva) in Sicilia.
