We observe insult as a linguistic form (Dérive and Dérive 2004; Laforest and Vincent 2004; Lagorgette and Larrivée 2004) within a deliberately heterogeneous, chronologically and genre-wise, corpus of comics and GR. Since this category of literature tends to reproduce a semblance of oral and informal language, our study will also observe insult and swearing as forms of social interaction (Ernotte and Rosier 2004) in the context of all degrees of offense and rudeness expressed in comics and GR from the 1930s to the present; from the weakest (Tintin, Picsou, Almanacco Topolino) to the strongest (De Plomb et de sang by Seif Eddine Nechi; La guerre des tranchées by Jacques Tardi; Peppino Impastato by Marco Rizzo and Lelio Bonaccorso; Dimentica il mio nome by Zero Calcare). Through the pseudo-oral language of comics and RGs we will be able to determine what is the anthropological meaning of an insult in a certain society, in a certain time, and what is its weight and offensive value and, moreover, through the work of comparison of translations we will be able to highlight if the meaning, the value and the weight change from one language to the other and what are the possible losses and the possible gains (Tartamella, 2006).
