Leopardi revisited. Il poeta personaggio tra biografie narrative e invenzioni romanzesche

This paper analyses works in which Giacomo Leopardi is transformed into a literary character on the border of history and fiction. The interpretation of the life and work of Leopardi becomes the starting point of literary fiction and narrative biography. The reception of the figure of Leopardi is susceptible to subjectivity; biographers and writers can draw inspiration for novel manifestations of the poet, based on the way they choose to represent him and tell his story. Therefore, Leopardi becomes a rewriting and testing ground for the contemporary literary imagination.

Il saggio prende in esame alcuni testi che vedono protagonista la figura di Giacomo Leopardi e che trasformano il poeta in un personaggio letterario, ai confini tra vero storico e invenzione romanzesca. Le rivisitazioni affondano le proprie radici nella vita e nell’opera leopardiana, che diventano punto di partenza di biografie narrative e fiction letterarie. La figura di Leopardi si rivela dunque permeabile alle più svariate possibilità di ricezione che fanno del poeta un personaggio da cui biografi e scrittori possono attingere di volta in volta spunti per rielaborazioni sempre nuove, in base alle proprie scelte di interpretazione e di metodo. Leopardi si offre così all’immaginario contemporaneo, facendosi terreno di riscrittura e sperimentazione.
