Restauri in Sicilia: gli interventi sui beni architettonici danneggiati dal terremoto del 1968 nella Valle del Belice

This paper aims to integrate and complete the cultural scenario of the heterogeneous experiences included in the session “Protection, Practice, Codes and Standards” in the context of the second Conference of the SIRA Italian Society for the Architectural Restoration. The framework of the case studies, which ranges from environmental protection of sites of interest to sector regulations in Italy and France, and includes the set of technical and methodological questions concerning the restoration site too, is completed by the experience of the restoration of architectural testimonies of the past in the urban centers destroyed by the earthquake that affected the Belice Valley in Sicily in 1968. After having framed the places damaged by the violent earthquake and outlined the cultural and reg¬ulatory framework, the essay wants to focus on some ‘experiences’ of restoration and reintegration of historical architectures highlighting the critical matrix of the conservation proposals.

Questo contributo mira ad integrare lo scenario culturale delle eterogenee esperienze incluse nella sessione “Protezione, pratica, codici e norme” del secondo Convegno Internazionale della SIRA Società Italiana per il Restauro dell’Architettura. L’articolato ventaglio dei casi studio, che spazia dal tema della tutela dei siti d’interesse ambientale alle normative settoriali in Italia e Francia, ed include le questioni tecniche e metodologiche riguardanti il cantiere di restauro, è completato dall’esperienza del restauro dei beni architettonici nei centri urbani danneggiati dal terremoto che interessa la valle del Belice in Sicilia nel 1968. Dopo aver inquadrato i luoghi danneggiati dal violento terremoto e delineato il quadro culturale e normativo, il saggio richiama alcune ‘esperienze’ di restauro evidenziando la matrice critica delle strategie di conservazione.
