Marina Warner is one of the foremost contemporary English intellectuals, writers and essayists, author of, among others, the novels The Lost Father (1982), Indigo, or Mapping the Waters and The Leto Bundle (2001), and the collection of short stories The Mermaids in the Basement (1993). Her essayistic and critical work has appeared in The London Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, The New York Times Books Review and Lettre Internationale, to name but a few. She was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France) in 2000. She has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature since 1985 and an honorary fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford; and has taught at prestigious institutions and universities, including the Getty Center, the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Yale and Stanford. Marina Warner lives in London and holds the post of professor at the University of Essex.
