Peripheral centralities: an integrated approach

A deep changing globally features the urban settlements: this can be especially observed in the relationships between central and peripherals areas. The peripheral contexts are the bench where the future of urban settlements can be properly tested, where one can prefigure the future quality of life of individuals and of communities. The security, the sustainability, the welfare that will be reached in peripheral areas will be prevailing in terms of quantity. The sense of identity and of belonging, stronger in the central parts, in the peripheral ones is weak or lacking. A sort of spread centrality should be aimed, applying an integrated approach, adapting to the specificities without losing the needed uniformity.

Un profondo cambiamento caratterizza a livello globale gli insediamenti urbani: ciò può essere osservato attraverso le relazioni tra centro e periferie. Le aree periferiche sono il banco dove il futuro delle città può essere opportunamente messo alla prova, in cui è possibile prefigurare la futura qualità della vita di individui e comunità. Sicurezza, sostenibilità, benessere che potranno essere raggiunti nelle aree periferiche saranno più rilevanti in termini quantitativi; invece il senso di identificazione e appartenenza, più forte nelle aree centrali, è debole o assente nelle periferie. Occorre puntare quindi a una sorta di centralità diffusa, applicando un approccio integrato, che si adatti alle specificità senza perdere la necessaria uniformità.
