This work is part of the Research Project of National Interest (PRIN, 2010/2011) “Success training, inclusion and social cohesion: innovative strategies, ICT and valuation models” (Scientific Coordinator of the National Research Programme is Professor Gaetano Domenici). The research is meant to represent a case study on the use of the flipped classroom with students of 14 to 18 years. The flipped classroom model leads to deep changes in the teaching practice reversing the ordinary moments of educational activity, that of presenting information in the classroom and that of acquiring contents at home. Through our work, we aimed to explore new learning and teaching environments, to investigate new ways of interaction between teachers and students which verify the validity and effectiveness; to develop a contextualized teachinglearning model referring to specific content and learning objectives. We used the Design Based Research methodology (Pellerey, 2005) as it provides the opportunity to consider and overcome the limitations of both rigidly experimental and ethnographic research methods. We have chosen to use this research methodology as we felt it is among the most suitable ones to the complex dynamics of the situation, and because it allows us to structure learning paths based on previous theories and research, referring to the activities carried out in real educational situations. the research involved a total of 12 teachers and 124 students from seven classes (one first, one third, four fourth, and one fifth grades) of a technical and economic institute for tourism. during the research, the qualitative and quantitative data were collected through different techniques and tools such as focus groups, participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires.

Abstract
This work is part of the Research Project of National Interest (PRIN, 2010/2011) “Success training, inclusion and social cohesion: innovative strategies, ICT and valuation models” (Scientific Coordinator of the National Research Programme is Professor Gaetano Domenici). The research is meant to represent a case study on the use of the flipped classroom with students of 14 to 18 years.
