The article attemps to analyse the mythological figures in the so-called 'Walpurgisnacht' in Goethe's faust II and their reciprocal interaction with - as well as their relationship to - the four elements. taking as a point of departure the evident predominance of the figure of water, it is demonstrated, however, that Goethe (through the figure of the other elements - primarily fire) emphasizes the unity of creation and simultaneously aims to make apparent the levels of being, which man does not always perceive - in the first place that of the Divine which manifests itself in nature.

Abstract
The article attemps to analyse the mythological figures in the so-called 'Walpurgisnacht' in Goethe's faust II and their reciprocal interaction with - as well as their relationship to - the four elements. taking as a point of departure the evident predominance of the figure of water, it is demonstrated, however, that Goethe (through the figure of the other elements - primarily fire) emphasizes the unity of creation and simultaneously aims to make apparent the levels of being, which man does not always perceive - in the first place that of the Divine which manifests itself in nature.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
