Superfici materiche nella percezione della scena urbana

Urban scene perception: architectural surfaces. The transformation dynamics of the ancient towns are changing the urban landscape of the historical countries in the Parco delle Madonie. The most superficial part of material constitutes the image of the architectures and plays a meaningful role in the perception of the historical districts that still characterize the natural reserve, but the aptitude for destroying architectural finishes and deleting superficial patina involves therefore altering the character of the old towns irreversibly. It had to be obvious it would have been essential to conserve the authentic materials and signs of time that denote the historical authenticity of towns, but new plaster surfaces have been frequently applied on ancient architecture façades after the destruction of material stratifications. The generalized destruction of the historical finishing surfaces is usually carried out to try an illusory return to the lost origins through a restoration conception as a matter of fact distorted by political and economic interests of various kind, all but cultural. The essay reveals all the theoretical and methodological groundlessness of the façade re-plastering and critically introduces some fundamental reflection addressed to the implementation of an active protection of ancient town and their cultural and geographical context.

La percezione della scena urbana: superfici architettoniche. Gli interventi d’alterazione corticale nelle architetture dei centri minori del Parco delle Madonie modificano progressivamente il paesaggio urbano nei centri antichi. La parte più esterna di materia veicola l’immagine delle architetture e possiede un ruolo essenziale nella percezione dei quartieri storici che ancora caratterizzano i centri della riserva naturale; ma la tendenza a rimuovere le finiture storicizzate e le patine del tempo comporta l’alterazione irreversibile del carattere dei centri antichi. Doveva essere ovvio che sarebbe stato essenziale conservare i segni del tempo, che denotano l’autenticità materiale della parte più antica dei centri abitati, ma nuove superfici d’intonaco sono state frequentemente applicate sulle facciate delle architetture del passato dopo avere distrutto le stratificazioni materiali. Il rifacimento degli intonaci viene per lo più eseguito per tentare un illusorio ritorno alle perduta forma primigenia attraverso una concezione del restauro che risulta distorta da interessi politici ed economici di varia natura, fuorché culturali. Il saggio pone in risalto l’infondatezza teorica e metodologica del rifacimento delle facciate ed introduce alcune riflessioni critiche che esaltano l’importanza della tutela attiva dei centri storici e del loro contesto geografico e culturale.
