Custodie lignee e architettura nella Sicilia di età moderna

In early modern age wood carving has produced in Sicily high quality works of art directly or indirectly related to architecture, frequently forming also a first area of training for craftsmen who have then achieved the status of architect. This study intends to investigate and highlight relations and exchanges between wood carving and the world of architecture, as well as the circumstances, the ways and tools that produced these contacts, through the analysis of a specific type, that of Tabernacles read as real micro-architectures, and the observation of a series of successful examples carved between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

L’intaglio ligneo nella Sicilia di età moderna ha prodotto opere d’arte di alta qualità direttamente o indirettamente connesse all’architettura, costituendo di frequente anche un primo ambito di formazione di artefici che hanno poi raggiunto lo status di architetto. Il contributo attraverso lo studio di una specifica tipologia, quella dei tabernacoli letti come vere e proprie microarchitetture, e l’osservazione di una casistica di esempi particolarmente significativi realizzati tra XVII e XVIII secolo, si propone di indagare e mettere in luce relazioni e interscambi tra intaglio ligneo e il mondo dell’architettura, nonché le circostanze, le vie e gli strumenti che li hanno prodotti.
