This chapter explores how representative online research panels can produce real-time longitudinal data on the transformation of societal ideas, values and civicness in Italy. It frames civicness as a lens for reading societal change in times of polycrisis. It also reviews the debate on probability and opt-in panels in light of major European experiences. The chapter presents the FOSSR Online Research Panel (ORP), a publicly managed opt-in panel designed as an “Open Science by design” service, and its flagship longitudinal survey, the CIVES Observatory. First-wave data (2025) show how populism, conspiracism, the progressive-conservative dimension and attitudes toward the wars in Ukraine and Palestine structure the Italian political space. Participation intensity is associated with progressive orientations. The chapter concludes by calling for a European network of panels on civicness.

Abstract
The chapter concludes by calling for a European network of panels on civicness.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
