This chapter examines how research infrastructures are reshaping knowledge production in the social sciences towards data-intensive, collaborative and AI-enabled models. It presents three empirical strands developed within FOSSR: the RISIS-EFIL dataset on R&D funding instruments and their alignment with the SDGs and gender equality; linked data on publications and projects showing domain-specific links between collaboration and research productivity; and data on the mobility of Italian PhD holders. The chapter concludes by discussing the ambivalence of the AI-intensive turn and the need for governance frameworks that prioritise quality, openness and epistemic equity.

Abstract
This chapter examines how research infrastructures are reshaping knowledge production in the social sciences towards data-intensive, collaborative and AI-enabled models. It presents three empirical strands developed within FOSSR: the RISIS-EFIL dataset on R&D funding instruments and their alignment with the SDGs and gender equality; linked data on publications and projects showing domain-specific links between collaboration and research productivity; and data on the mobility of Italian PhD holders. The chapter concludes by discussing the ambivalence of the AI-intensive turn and the need for governance frameworks that prioritise quality, openness and epistemic equity.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
