This paper is dedicated to the examination of Roxane’s monologue in Act IV of Jean Racine’s «Bajazet» (vv. 1209-50). In particular, the analysis focuses on a passage from the monologue (vv. 1243-8) clearly exemplified, by the French poet, on a passage from Sophocles’ «Ajax» (vv. 387-91), through the careful examination of the similarities and differences between the two passages.
