History as Translation: A Commmon Theoretical Space

I am a historian by training. Most of my reading over the past thirty years has been in history and history-related topics. One could therefore say that I am expressing the historians’ point of view on this topic. However, things are not so simple as they seem. The concept of ‘History as Translation’ calls into question what it means, today, to be a historian and a translation scholar and implies the creation of a common space in which History and Translation coexist on the same level; this common space is a polyphonic space, for a polyphonic history and polyphonic translations, where the historian is a translator, moving between different times and places, and the translator works as a historian, abandoning traditional ways of conducting research and opening up to new perspectives in the study of history and translation studies.
