The essay examines the relationship between temporality, memory, and political culture within the Italian right descended from the Movimento sociale italiano (MSI), showing how the 1970s became a decisive turning point. The crisis of the great progressive narratives of the twentieth century was accompanied by the rise of identitarian and victim-centred memories, mobilized to construct a counterhistory of postwar Italy, from the Resistance to the 1970s, with the clear aim of deconstructing the antifascist paradigm by advancing an opposing narrative. Through a comparison of the autobiographies of Giorgio Almirante and Giorgia Meloni, the article further highlights both continuities and transformations within a canon that portrays the right as a persecuted community and antifascism as a source of exclusion and violence. What emerges is a partial, yet politically effective, interpretation that has long shaped Italian public discourse.
