This article examines the Italian Communist Party’s response to the Aventine Secession, reassessing the tension between revolutionary identity and antifascist strategy. It traces the shift from Bordiga’s sectarianism to Gramsci’s effort to broaden social alliances and reinterpret fascism within the international communist debate. It argues that these innovations remained constrained by political isolation and unresolved ambivalence toward non-revolutionary forces.
