This contribution reports on the conference held on 8 January 2024 in the Aula Magna of the Department of Law at the University of Messina in memory of Stefania Scarcella. It traces the principal strands of her scholarship while also paying tribute to her qualities as a scholar, teacher, and member of the academic community. The papers delivered at the conference reflect the wide scope of her research, from classical Roman law to late antique and Justinianic legislation and Byzantine legal sources, and highlight her profound commitment to teaching, university life, and her students.
