Contro la Rivoluzione. L'Ottobre e l'estrema destra

This essay examines how the Movimento Sociale Italiano and its newspaper Il Secolo d’Italia represented the Russian Revolution from the late 1950s to the collapse of the USSR. Focusing on key anniversaries and on 1991, it shows that October 1917 functioned less as an object of historical reconstruction than as a mirror of the Italian far right’s changing identity. The memory of Bolshevism shifted from anti-communist counter-celebration and anti-Soviet propaganda to a broader attempt to delegitimise Italian communism, antifascism and the republican order, while reaffirming the MSI’s nationalist, authoritarian and anti-revolutionary self-image.
