Senso e metodo di una educazione come bene comune per il nostro tempo

This paper presents an summary of the sessions from the “Giornate Pedagogiche” seminar discussing the meaning and method of education and the common good within the perspective of Antonio Bellingreri’s fundamental pedagogy. A comparison of the various contributions in dialogue with Bellingreri helps to clarify the idea of education as a human and universal phenomenon, which takes place within historical and geographical contexts, since no educational experience can occur without time and space. Indeed, every individual has always been placed within an original relational and communal context, with which they engage in a constant dialogue for their own existential growth. Personal development, however, could not take place unless we also cared for the community as a universally human vocation oriented towards the realisation of the common good. Because today we often live within communities that appear to be educational but are in reality closed spaces, an educational approach is needed to transform them into empathic micro-communities—places of authentic educational growth where relationships are characterised by recognition and welcoming.
