This introduction frames bad manners as a semiotic object, understood not as an ontological property but as an effect of meaning produced within social relations. From a structural and sociosemiotic perspective, it discusses the epistemological, theoretical, methodological and empirical conditions for analysing rudeness, focusing on its relational, normative and contextual dimensions. The article also explores the lexical field of education, and proposes discontinuity, tact and distinction as key categories for understanding how inappropriate behavior becomes socially recognizable and sanctionable.
