Nilde Iotti joined the PCI Directorate at the 10th Congress (Rome, 2–8 December 1962) and remained a member until the 20th Congress (Rimini, 31 January–3 February 1991). Through an analysis of her contributions within this body, the chapter reconstructs her role in shaping the choices and the reformist culture of Italian communism, with particular attention to her positions on gender issues in the 1970s and on political-institutional matters between 1979 and 1992, during the years in which Iotti also served as President of the Chamber of Deputies.
