In this paper, a simplified strut-and-tie model for the prediction of the load-carrying capacity of a prismatic RC column foundation with a square cross-section is presented. Several subgrade contact pressure distributions for column foundations were considered. The flexibility of the foundation was also considered in the use of a strut-and-tie model. A detailed background of existing models for prediction of the load-carrying capacity of a flexible and rigid foundation was presented. The aim of the paper was the choice of the best model (strut-and-tie or cantilever beam/two-way slab model) to safely predict the load-carrying capacity of a single column foundation including the variation in the type of soil. Available experimental data were utilized to verify the model in comparison with existing models.

Abstract
Available experimental data were utilized to verify the model in comparison with existing models.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
