This chapter examines how the Italian left addressed immigration, labour and rights in the 1980s, focusing on the PCI’s support for the Foschi and Martelli laws. It shows how communist anti-racism drew on internationalism, labour solidarity and the constitutional legacy of antifascism, while also revealing tensions caused by new migration flows, informal work and social conflict. The Masslo murder marked a turning point in the public debate on racism and citizenship.
