The essay reconstructs the Italian historiographical debate on the concept of nation from the 1990s to the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Unification. Through Rusconi, De Felice, Galli della Loggia, Lupo, Gentile and Banti, the author shows how the nation has been interpreted both as a crisis of democracy and “death of the fatherland,” and as a construction shaped by conflicts, fractures and plural memories. The 2011 celebrations thus become an opportunity to question the relationship between history, national identity and political project.

Abstract
The essay reconstructs the Italian historiographical debate on the concept of nation from the 1990s to the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Unification. Through Rusconi, De Felice, Galli della Loggia, Lupo, Gentile and Banti, the author shows how the nation has been interpreted both as a crisis of democracy and “death of the fatherland,” and as a construction shaped by conflicts, fractures and plural memories. The 2011 celebrations thus become an opportunity to question the relationship between history, national identity and political project.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
