“Je sais a quoi tu pense. JLG/JLG. Autoportrait de décembre”

Jlg/Jlg. Self-portrait in december is not an autobiography of Jean-Luc Godard, but a self-portrait, as the voiceover within the film confirms. The intention is not to provide facts and details and trace a progression of events that together tell the story of a life, but a different way of documenting a person's reality. Godard's film seems to be an authentic “pedagogy” of self-portraying, as it has been defined by the theory of recent decades. Starting from the most personal quest possible, the author opens the self up to the impersonal, moving constantly from the particular to the general.

Autoritratto, non autobiografia. Non la ricostruzione narrativa della storia della propria vita, ma il tentativo di catturare e restituire un’immagine efficace del soggetto. Nel suo testo più intimo Godard rende esplicita una delle riflessioni maggiormente feconde che si legano alla costruzione artistica della soggettività. Le immagini dell’archivio memoriale si riattivano, frammentando il corpo audiovisivo per fare del cineasta un soggetto intermittente.
