This essay reassesses 1968 from the perspective of the Italian Social Movement, shifting attention from student protest to the neo-fascist right’s response to global conservatism. Focusing on MSI support for Richard Nixon’s presidential campaign, it shows how party figures tried to turn Atlantic anti-communism into a project for international legitimation and a “world right.” The attempt exposed the gap between democratic repositioning, neo-fascist identity and the limits of conservative transnational alliances, foreshadowing later tensions within the Italian right during the 1970s.

Abstract
This essay reassesses 1968 from the perspective of the Italian Social Movement, shifting attention from student protest to the neo-fascist right’s response to global conservatism. Focusing on MSI support for Richard Nixon’s presidential campaign, it shows how party figures tried to turn Atlantic anti-communism into a project for international legitimation and a “world right.” The attempt exposed the gap between democratic repositioning, neo-fascist identity and the limits of conservative transnational alliances, foreshadowing later tensions within the Italian right during the 1970s.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
