The paper explores the correspondence sent by Edoardo Volterra (1904-1984) to Emilio Gabba (1927-2013). The letters, in number of twelve, show the connection between these two eminent scholars of the Antiquity; in particular, it turns out the admiration and the positive evaluation given by Volterra to the scientific research of his younger colleague Gabba. Every historical problem discussed by the correspondents is analysed from a double perspective, the law and the history, because both Volterra and Gabba are firmly convinced of the importance of an interdisciplinary study in order to improve the knowledge of the Roman world.
