The present paper aims to analyse with new elements, both textual and historiographical, the two passages of Lydus, mag. 1, 26 and 1, 34, in order to discuss their attribution to Gaius; they will be presented following the order of exposition of the Byzantine author. It will not fail to examine the previous judgements made on each Lydian text, considering their strengths but also their possible limitations, in order to facilitate a more comprehensive reading and renewed understanding.

Abstract

The present paper aims to analyse with new elements, both textual and historiographical, the two passages of Lydus, mag. 1, 26 and 1, 34, in order to discuss their attribution to Gaius; they will be presented following the order of exposition of the Byzantine author. It will not fail to examine the previous judgements made on each Lydian text, considering their strengths but also their possible limitations, in order to facilitate a more comprehensive reading and renewed understanding.
