La fama, la gloria e il denaro. Per una lettura del "prooemium" all’«Historia rerum in Italia gestarum» di Ferreto Ferreti

In this paper, after a brief initial section dedicated to a bio-bibliographical profile of the Vicenza-born writer Ferreto Ferreti (1294/1297-1337) and an illustration of his works, a reading of the prologue to the «Historia rerum in Italia gestarum ab anno 1250 usque ad annum 1318», his most significant historiographical work, is conducted. Composed between 1330 and 1337 and left unfinished due to the author’s premature death, Ferreto’s «Historia» is connected – by the writer’s own admission – to the historiographical works of Albertino Mussato, specifically to «De gestis Italicorum post Henricum VII Cesarem». The prologue, as emerges from our examination, is characterized by insistent moralistic motifs and a substantially pessimistic view of contemporary reality, focusing more on material aspects (money, wealth, power) than on art and literature. Among the topics Ferreto develops most in his text, the themes of fame and glory that the writer expects for his literary and historiographical efforts stand out, and, on the other hand, the themes of money and wealth that he despises but that are, instead, held in high regard by his contemporaries. Appropriate attention is also paid throughout the text to rhetorical and stylistic aspects and to the use of the "cursus".

In questo intervento, dopo una breve sezione iniziale dedicata a un profilo bio-bibliografico dello scrittore vicentino Ferreto Ferreti (1294/1297-1337) e a un’illustrazione delle sue opere, viene condotta una lettura del proemio all’«Historia rerum in Italia gestarum ab anno 1250 usque ad annum 1318», il suo scritto storiografico più significativo. Composta fra il 1330 e il 1337 e rimasta incompiuta per la prematura morte dell’autore, l’«Historia» di Ferreto si ricollega – per esplicita ammissione dello scrittore – alle opere storiografiche di Albertino Mussato, segnatamente al «De gestis Italicorum post Henricum VII Cesarem». Il proemio, come emerge dalla disamina che di esso viene condotta, è caratterizzato da insistenti motivi moralistici e da una visione sostanzialmente pessimistica della realtà dell’epoca, più attenta agli aspetti materiali (il denaro, le ricchezze, il potere) che all’arte e alla letteratura. Fra quelli maggiormente sviluppati da Ferreto nel suo testo emergono, soprattutto, i temi della fama e della gloria che lo scrittore si attende per il suo impegno letterario e storiografico e, per converso, i temi del denaro e della ricchezza che egli disprezza ma che, invece, sono tenuti in alta considerazione dai suoi contemporanei. Adeguata attenzione, nel corso dell’intervento, viene conferita anche agli aspetti retorici e stilistici e all’utilizzazione del "cursus".
